1:300 scale Phalanx Defender - Type A Lasercraft model kit

Once the pinnacle of flotilla defense, the Phalanx is more akin to a mobile turret than a traditional medium fighter. With advanced frontal armor, the Phalanx is almost impenetrable when taken head-on.

Protect the flotilla at all costs…

During the height of its prominence, the Children of the Inferno rose to considerable influence in the Silva System. Existing as a flotilla of religious zealots, the CotI were an economic powerhouse for many of the connected systems. Using unique armor technology, followers of the faith would mine raw gases straight from Sylvia’s central star via an astrial jet visible throughout the system. Only towards the center, the “Inferno”, could the most pure gas be harvested. Given the relative monopoly on the local markets, the CotI made both friends and enemies far and wild.

Without the natural defenses of a planet-side outpost, the CotI struggled with protecting it’s vast fleet. Around 1050 SS, Brother Erwin of the Great Hall proposed what would eventually become the Phalanx. He saw that the same armor technology used to protect the front line gas miners could be effectively used to protect the fleet. However, instead of bolstering the armor on the massive ships he thought that mobile, coordinated defense teams could more effectively use the technology instead.

By the fall of the CotI Empire, the Phalanx formations were well known throughout the known systems. Reaching legendary status as the wall that couldn’t be broken. While ultimately succumbing to internal revolution, the Phalanx Defenders stood their ground til the very end.

Since then, Phalanx Defenders have slowly made their way into the collections of ship collectors far and wide. While not a great fighter on their own, the stories the impervious ship have made them quite sought after. Very few ships have reached such a high status in folklore and still exist to teach their tales. Having been made in several versions over the centuries, the Type A here is the oldest and rarest model once used in service.
